Where: Franconia Notch State Park
If you are looking for a relaxed, non-exhausting and cost saving one day trip close to Boston, then this trip to Franconia Notch State Park. The two main attractions are Flume George and Cannon Mountain and a combo ticket costs only $31. If you rent a car with a friend it will cost around $20 per person and the drive only takes 2 hours each way! Between the two attractions the drive is around 10 minutes. Both Flume George and Cannon Mountain take around 2 hours to explore, therefore you could still sleep in in the morning, take your time going around, and still be back in Boston early.
Flume George
Enjoy a 2-mile self-guided nature walk through the Flume Gorge, a spectacular natural chasm. Along the walk you will discover covered bridges, amazing waterfalls, a scenic pool, and incredible mountain views.
Insider tips: after walking through the gate from the visitor center, turn right and wait for the free shuttle bus. There are roads on your left side but they are not the ones leading to the flume gorge. If you go there you would waste your ticket!
Cannon Mountain

It is highly recommended that you take the 80-passenger cable car that brings visitors to the 4,080-foot summit of Cannon Mountain in under ten minutes. On a clear day, you can see the mountains of four states and Canada! At the summit, you'll find spectacular scenic walking paths, a 360 degree observation deck, a cafe, bar and restrooms. It is the highest lift-accessed point in New Hampshire.

Insider tips: make sure to bring warm enough clothing even when the weather is nice because the temperature is substaintially lower on the top, and there is also strong wind so a warm hat could be very handy!
