Crustacean on a Roll : Finding Boston's best yet affordable Lobster Roll

Where is the best, non-wallet busting lobster roll in Boston?  We have put our knowledge and taste buds to the test here at helloBostonBlog to bring you the two best yet affordable spots to enjoy a lobster roll.

First we must end the debate and say there is only one true style of lobster roll and that is the “Connecticut style”.  This consists of warm lobster meat on a toasted bun with a touch of melted butter on top.  Some may argue that a “Maine style” roll is better but that’s just plain hogswallow.

With that out of the way our winners for the best, yet affordable, lobster rolls in Boston are Yankee Lobster Company and James Hook and Co.  Both of these establishments are bare bones, no nonsense eateries located in the Sea Port district.  They source their own lobster so you know it’s fresh and cuts out the middle person.

Yankee Lobster Company is conveniently located next to the Harpoon Brewery at 300 Northern Ave, Boston, MA.  The inside is small and quaint consisting of about 12 tables.  There is also an outdoor eating space for the warmer months.  There are a slew of delicious seafood options here but focusing in on the Lobster Roll it will set you back $23.  One thing to note is that it gets pretty busy around meal time (Lunch or Dinner) so plan for a wait.  On a positive note, if the line is too long head to Harpoon for a pint and check back after.

James Hook and Co. is located on the dividing line between Fort Hill and Seaport districts.  It is fittingly situated on the water and offers only outdoor seating.  The delicious food is ordered and prepared in an unassuming permanent, pre-fabricated structure.  The lobster roll here will set you back $20 and oh so worth it.  This location can have a line too but less likely than at Yankee Lobster Company.

Enjoy your lobster and comment below with your experience or which you like better.
